The Mayor of Brighton and Hove has signed a new Friendship City Pact with the California coastal town of Santa Monica, celebrating both region’s “iconic piers, beautiful coastlines, rich cultures, and vibrant communities.”

The agreement, negotiated by VisitBrighton and Santa Monica Travel and Tourism, will see a series of cultural events taking place in Brighton this month, including a new mural by US street artist Ruben Rojas installed at Brighton Palace Pier.

“We look forward to welcoming the Santa Monica Travel and Tourism team to our shores and supporting this fully immersive cultural experience for our residents and visitors throughout July,” said head of VisitBrighton Howard Barden.

“It is a sign of the exciting times that lie ahead for both destinations and we look forward to collaborating on further activations as part of our Friendship City Partnership.” The visit by the Santa Monica tourism team will include an official signing of the Friendship City Partnership Agreement by Brighton Mayor Lizzie Deane and the Mayor Pro-Tem of Santa Monica, Kristin McCowan, as well as an unveiling of the new mural at the pier.
