Opera Bingo in Barrow is to extend its Holker Street premises, after local planners unanimously approved proposals for a new function room.
The plans were given the green light during a meeting on 14 June, with the new addition increasing the club’s capacity by 30.
“It would form part of our bingo offering,” said head of operations and finance Daryl Davidson. “We’ll use it in line with what we currently do.
We have no plans to change what we do, the formula works.”
During the planning meeting, Barrow Borough Council case officer Jennifer Dickinson dismissed concerns over reduced light for properties and noise nuisance, however public protection services stated the department is “watching the area carefully.”
Barrow is one of Opera’s five UK sites, with sister venues in Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, and St Helens. The company will now seek licensing permission for the planned site extension.
