The members of Future 4 Fairgrounds have together been named Showman of the Year 2021 by the SGGB, at the Guild’s annual Western Section luncheon.
The event, which took place at the Hilton Swindon on 17 March, honoured the six-strong campaign group for their work in raising awareness for the community.
“Proud is not a big enough word, we are delighted to say the least,” said a F4F spokesperson. “We would like to say a big thank you to the London section for nominating us, an award that will be treasured forever by us all.”
Future 4 Fairgrounds, which comprises Bernice Wall, Narvenka Noyce, Hayley Danter, Nicola Hill, Joannie Peak and Colleen Roper, has been working to raise the profile of Showmen in society and education since the group’s founding in October 2020.
As well as launching the first World Funfair Month in September, F4F has also been fundamental in the campaign to have the Showmen community recognised on official forms and in school settings.
In February, the group was given the Education Award at the 2022 Friends, Families and Travellers Awards, during a 16 February ceremony at the Irish Embassy in London.
