The industry charity CHIPS has raised some £2m to purchase powered wheel chairs to help deserving youngsters gain their independence and freedom – now they are looking for runners, joggers and walkers to put their best foot forward and raise more funds to help more youngsters.

CHIPS the UK Gaming industry charity which was formed in order to raise funds to purchase bespoke powered wheelchairs for youngsters with varying disabilities, is embarking on its latest initiative and appealing to industry runners and their friends to dig deep and ‘go the extra distance’. CHIPS is offering runners and joggers of all standards the opportunity to enter the prestigious Royal Parks Half Marathon (Sunday October 9th) for free – in return all that participants have to do is to pledge to raise a minimum of £500 with runners able to enter independently or as a team. Thanks to the tremendous support shown by the gaming industry, CHIPS has succeeded in raising over £2,000,000 and has presented over 500 wheelchairs to youngsters for whom the NHS cannot or will not assist.

Viewed as one of the most beautiful half marathons in the world, the 13.1mile run leads its 16,000 participants through four of London’s eight Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. Internationally recognised London landmarks also form part of the race’s backdrop – with runners being in eye-shot of Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, Canada House and Buckingham Palace. Following the successful mass rollout of vaccines and booster jabs the 2022 race is returning to its original recognisable route – starting and finishing in Hyde Park. The race has remained true to its commitment to sustainability and has pledged to ban all plastic bottles on course and within the festival site and to drastically reduce waste wherever possible. Head of Events, Filming and Commercial Development at The Royal Parks, Alun Mainwaring, commented: “The Royal Parks Half Marathon promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Not only does the Royal Parks Half provide runners with an unforgettable running experience through some of the capital’s greenest locations, but it also continues to be a fantastic means of supporting charities big and small. Since 2008, over £55million has been raised, supporting over 1,000 charities – we’re excited to see how much will be raised in 2022!”
