Shipleys is to convert a former butcher’s shop in central Mansfield into a new 24-hour AGC and bingo hall, after Mansfield District Council approved its ambitious conversion plans.
The West Gate site has remained empty since Crawshaws vacated the premises in 2018, with a submission from Amuse 2016 Ltd now set to revitalise the 18th century building. “The premises would trade 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” states the application.
“The proposed external alterations to the premises are of a modest nature, comprising the replacement of the existing shopfront and new signage to West Gate.”
“The shopfront would respect the character of the building and the traditional pattern of shopfronts in the locality, in terms of materials, style and scale. The [site is] located within a highly commercialised part of the town centre, with no residential properties apparent within the immediate vicinity.”
According to the design submission, the bingo hall will occupy 3 to 5 West Gate, with the gaming floor occupying the ground floor, alongside a first floor staff facility spread across both buildings.
The venue will form the latest addition to the existing Shipleys estate, with bingo halls in Bristol, Kidderminster and Edmonton Green, with the conversion process expected to begin within the next month.
