The warning signs have already been highlighted by bingo luminaries Mark Jepp and Andrew Reilly, and the realities of a sector under pressure have hit home once again, this time in Telford.

After 29 years of operating, the Mecca Bingo Club in the Shropshire town’s Southwater Square has confirmed that its doors will close next month.

News broke on the club’s social media pages with a statement noting: “We are very sad to confirm that the club will be closed from Monday, February 7, and we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support – we will miss you very much.

“We are working on plans to make the next three weeks memorable and celebrate the last 29 years we have been here in Telford, for you as well as the team. “Please bear with us while we all adjust to the news, but feel free to pop in and have a chat, we will keep you updated here on what our plans are for the next three weeks.”

The Mecca closure leaves just two bingo clubs standing in the locality, one in Donnington – 8 miles away – and Buzz Bingo’s Shrewsbury venue – a 16 mile drive away.
