YGAM has exceeded every single one of its KPIs and the target is to make 2022 its best year yet

YGAM is defying every cliched view of how charities behave by smashing targets and raising the bar in an evangelical approach to getting the safer gambling message out. Best in breed training is at the heart of the YGAM proposition and since April it has sold 14,500 programmes which is a meaty endorsement of what YGAM is all about.

 

Coinslot: A year that opened in lockdown, staggered through to reopening, via a supply chain crisis and ending with Omicron: how will you look back on 2021?

Ian Shanahan: Despite the challenges of the pandemic, YGAM has continued to increase our growth and impact. After the digital transformation of our resources, the majority of our delivery has remained online and we’ve been busier than ever.

We’ve exceeded our annual targets for the ‘Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme’ to train over 3,000 education professionals. These practitioners are expected to reach an extraordinary 1 million young people over the next 12 months.

We’ve grown our talented staff team and recruited new Trustees to our board. It’s been another fast-paced year of real impact.

Coinslot: What have been your highlights of the year?

Ian Shanahan: Earlier this year, our team celebrated winning the ‘PSHE Education Award’ at the national Children & Young People Now Awards. The prestigious accolade honours ‘organisations providing outstanding resources to educators, delivering materials and lesson plans that align cohesively with the national curriculum.’

We also scooped three more awards at the Digital Impact Awards. Our team picked up Silver Awards for ‘Best Communications during Covid-19’ and ‘Best use of Digital for Education’ followed by a Bronze Award for ‘Best use of Digital for a Charity’.

It was fantastic to get this acknowledgement and such a wonderful reward for the hard work of our team. We’ve also launched our Safer Gambling Training for operators with our partners Betknowmore.

Since April, we’ve sold an incredible 14,500 programmes which just shows how well the training has been received by the industry.

Coinslot: What are you looking or hoping for in 2022 and what’s on your New Year’s wish list?

Ian Shanahan: Next year is set to be our biggest and most successful year yet! We’ll be launching an ambitious new strategy that will enable us to further achieve our social purpose and continue our mission to safeguard future generations.

We’ll be expanding our existing programmes and launching some exciting new projects which will hopefully take our charity to the next level.
