Ian Eason is letting go of 2021 – it’s onwards and upwards as far as the Instance Automatics boss is concerned. “We have no choice,” he says, cognisant of the hurdles that supply chain and rising energy prices have caused. But then, it is Christmas and he’s ever hopeful of a festive party invite from No 10 Downing Street. “I like to surround myself with Bell*nds!!” Enough said!

IAN EASON MANAGING DIRECTOR INSTANCE AUTOMATICS

Coinslot: A year that opened in lockdown, staggered through to reopening, via a supply chain crisis and ending with Omicron: how will you look back on 2021?

Ian Eason: We won’t look back on 2021…we’re not going that way!

Coinslot: We’ve had five months since re-opening, what were your highlights of the year?

Ian Eason: The amazing and continued support from our customers is testament to the resilience and continued growth and strength of the UK amusement industry under difficult circumstances, and not forgetting the hard work of our staff for making it possible.

Coinslot: 2021 has been a major challenge to the way our businesses operate. How have you risen to this challenge and what new developments are you introducing to rebuild and strengthen your operation?

Ian Eason: Keeping up with rising product demand and shipping costs has been a huge challenge for 2021. When factoring in the surging prices of energy, raw materials and transportation, this has resulted in a cost environment unlike anything we’ve seen for at least two decades. We have no choice but to adapt to these changes and keep pressing forwards. We still remain very positive for 2022 with the possibility of another “staycation” due to the ever-changing travel uncertainties and restrictions. This means another boost for our industry and with this in mind innovation strengthening our product offering has and always will be a huge part of our company strategy moving forward.

Coinslot: What are you looking or hoping for in 2022 and what’s on your New Year’s wish list?

Ian Eason: Good Health and happiness…oh and an Invite to the No.10 Christmas party. I like to surround myself with Bell*nds!!
