NOVOMATIC Gaming UK made a strong return to action during the latter part of 2021 with ACOS proving a big hit for the manufacturer. That will likely continue into EAG and ICE in the coming weeks as its new cabinet, the Thaumic, takes centre stage. However, the new year comes with challenges, most notably for the supply chain, and MD Phil Burke is determined – and confident – that the company, together with its suppliers and partners, will overcome obstacles that comes in their way.

Coinslot: A year that opened in lockdown, staggered through to reopening, via a supply chain crisis and ending with Omicron: how will you look back on 2021?

Phil Burke: Hopefully as a one-off! It’s difficult, as we continue to combat the issues of Covid-19, to consider the end of the year as being any kind of milestone.

Normally at this time of year we’re spending our time looking at the last 12 months’ figures, preparing reports, forecasting for the coming year and ensuring our customers are supported through what is, for many of them, their busiest period; this year, however, as well as doing all that, there is the significant uncertainty about what the next few months will hold, the usual feeling of a fresh new dawn for the new year is a tough one to muster.

The supply chain crisis is far from over and whilst we’re working hard with our colleagues across the NOVOMATIC Group to minimise any impact on our customers, there can be no doubt that this is going to be a challenging time for suppliers. It is, though, a challenge we are determined to overcome and are confident that we, along with our suppliers and partners, can meet.

Coinslot: We’ve had five months since re-opening, what have been your highlights of the year?

Phil Burke: The last five months have provided us with some fantastic opportunities to showcase the latest products and developments that had been in the pipeline despite the pandemic.

We had a very successful ACOS exhibition where we launched our newest cabinet for the AGC market, the Thaumic, along with some phenomenal new game content and updates to the Magic Games Premium HD™ CAT C and B3 game packs.

The biggest highlight has to be the resilience of the market and the return of our loyal players, as well as the continued support and perseverance of all of the staff in the NOVOMATIC group.

Coinslot: 2021 has been a major challenge to the way our businesses operate. How have you risen to this challenge and what new developments are you introducing to rebuild and strengthen your operation?

Phil Burke: We’ve worked closely with our customers from the beginning and the feedback we’ve received has universally been positive on how we have supported our customers throughout the pandemic.

It is of upmost importance to us that we are there for our customers to ensure that their journey with their NOVOMATIC products is supported throughout.

Coinslot: What are you looking for in 2022 and what’s on your New Year’s wish list?

Phil Burke: 2022 is a new year and with it brings new goals and objectives.

We will be celebrating our third birthday as a company which in itself is fantastic, but most of all we hope for continued recovery, no further setbacks or the need for restrictions, particularly full lockdowns as the industry recovers, as well as safe and successful ICE and EAG shows, at both of which we will be major exhibitors, and that Covid becomes something that is confined to the history books.
