Clacton Pier is challenging the traditional economic theory that the British seaside is a seasonal business – and that season is not the winter.

Well, that is quite literally Balls; as the defiant Ball family behind the award winning attraction in the coastal resort of Clacton are testing.

Clacton Pier, on a mission to create a 365-all year round tourist offering, has reported that families are “flocking” to its festive event this year, which includes a grotto, the North Pole experience, Frosty the Snowman and the opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea with Father Christmas.

Animatronic reindeers, extensive decorations, and a selection of outdoor rides are also providing “plenty of festive cheer” for visitors to the Essex attraction, as the pier builds on a successful 2020 event.

“The new grotto opened for the first time last winter and our visitors love it,” said pier director Billy Ball. “This year we have introduced afternoon tea with Santa – to replace breakfast with Santa – which is also proving popular.”

“It’s great to see the children’s faces light up when Frosty chats to them personally. It is a special time of year, and we hope families are making some happy memories with us.”

As well as the attractions, children are able to write a letter to Santa with a special post box on site, while families are able to make use of a special cracker ride deal until 3 January.

The festive experience itself, which includes the grotto and afternoon tea with Santa, will run until 23 December.
