The new owners of Dimes Amusements in Barry Island have announced plans to bring back the Bier Keller, a Bavarian-themed bar under the arcade which last welcomed guests in the 1980s.

Jamie Crole and son Lewis, who purchased the site in October, will refurbish the bar before relaunching it next year, breathing new life into a much-loved venue that was first opened in May 1969.

“Have a look what’s coming to Barry Island,” said local resident Kris Crook on social media. “If you get a chance just have a look above the arcades.”

“Lewis and Jamie are trying to bring back the place that used to be called Bier Keller, can’t wait for it to happen next year – watch this space.”

Two local Facebook groups were also keen to confirm the news, with both Old Barry in Pictures and the Barry Historical Group posting images of what the bar looked like in its prime, and how it looks now – untouched for more than 35 years.

“Very surprised no one’s taken a punt on reopening this over the years,” commented local resident Richard Powell. “Especially with all the new housing in the area, it could be very popular.”

The Croles also operate the neighbouring Carousel Amusements and Caesars Palace, as well as five other local venues.
