Crowds “flocked” to Clacton Pier on 6 November, as the landmark attraction rounded off its free fireworks programme with a double display.
Clacton Pier’s final free firework extravaganza of 2021 “brought the crowds flocking” to the attraction on 6 November, with families turning up in force for the explosive double bill.
Dynamic Fireworks of Colchester launched two displays from the seaward end of the pier at 6pm and 9pm, with hundreds of spectators gathering along the pier and seafront.
“The double display for Guy Fawkes goes down really well as we can cater for the toddlers who cannot wait until 9pm,” said pier director Billy Ball. “Some stayed on to watch both and there was a great atmosphere all night.”
“Unfortunately, there was a bit of rain about for the earlier display but then it cleared up and overall, we were very lucky with the weather.”
As well as the fireworks, Clacton Pier kept rides open until 10pm, and organised free live music from SMC in the Boardwalk Bar and Grill.
Ball added he was “delighted by the turnout,” noting the number of visitors gathering by the Jolly Roger, alongside “many more watching from vantage points along the seafront.”
“We have put on eight free fireworks extravaganzas in 2021 – with six staged in the school summer holidays – to thank all our loyal customers for all their support this year.”
For the rest of the winter season the pier’s rides will be open at weekends, weather permitting, with management urging visitors to check social media before travelling.
The pier’s next big event will be its annual Christmas activities, which will include Santa’s Grotto and the North Pole Experience running from 29 November to 23 December.
