Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust has announced plans to construct a new events and amusements venue on the newly-restored pier, proposing “a 21st century solution that benefits visitors, residents, and the business community.”
Following conservation work led by Conwy County Council, the trust has confirmed its long-term consultant is drawing up suggestions for the truncated structure, which will be presented to planners early 2022.
“We are determined more than ever to restore the pier to its full glory,” said CVPT director Amy Sue Dyke. “The first phase has been completed, the second phase will be to build a pavilion and then the third and final phase will be to extend the pier into the sea.”
“This is all going to take time because of the funding needed and first of all we need to be granted a lease from Conwy County Council.”
CVPT proposes to use Lottery heritage grants to further the project, which would involve constructing an all-year facility as the central part of a business strategy which would allow the trust to secure operational responsibility of the site.
“We’ve realised we need to be swift,” added Dyke. “We’ve heard rumours that other parties are interested in the pier to do something with the space there.”
