The operators of Carousel Amusements in Westward Ho! have announced the seafront arcade has been purchased by prolific Rhyl-based amusement operator HB Leisure Ltd.

After 30 years trading in the north Devon seaside resort, the Martin family confirmed the sale also marks their retirement from the industry, after “the most successful year.”

“To the community of Westward Ho! – our customers and our friends; tomorrow is the day we hand the keys and aprons of the Carousel Entertainment Centre and outdoor units to the new owners HB Leisure Ltd,” said Julie Martin on social media.

“We are writing this post with mixed emotions, but knowing it’s time to move on to the next chapter in our lives. John Sr, John Jr and myself would like to thank you all for your support, custom and above all your friendship over the last 30 years.”

The family extended “a special thank you “to the employees and tradespeople that have worked at the arcade” during their tenure, as well as thanking the local community “for supporting us with your custom through the pandemic, which has been a worrying time for all business owners.”

“But we are so very pleased, proud and delighted to say we are retiring from Westward Ho! at the end of the busiest and most successful year’s trading to date.”

Commenting on HB Leisure Ltd, the multi-national amusement group which operates in over 90 theme parks and attractions across 20 countries, Martin added: “We ask you to welcome and support the new owners, and note that all redemption tickets will be valid and can be redeemed as normal.” “But above all can you please give the team at HB Leisure Ltd a fantastic Westward Ho! welcome.”
