Clacton Pier’s anniversary wheel is to be temporarily relocated to Wales for the Swansea Winter Wonderland this year, following an “amazing” first season on the pier.
The 33-metre attraction had been booked for the event prior to its installation in Clacton, however the pier has confirmed it will return early in 2022.
“It proved to be a really well-received addition to our ever-improving offer and we hope to make it a permanent fixture at our attraction going forwards,” said pier director Billy Ball. “We knew when we took it on that it was committed to be part of the event in Wales this winter and there was no option other than to honour that.”
“People will see it start to come down on Monday but after its short holiday it will be coming back for February half term 2022.”
Deconstruction began on 18 October and took three days, with the structure loaded onto trucks in order to be transported to Swansea.
The Clacton Wheel was unveiled earlier this year as part of a programme of events and new attractions hosted by the pier in order to celebrate 150 years of both the pier, and town itself.
“The response we received after introducing the wheel was amazing,” added Ball. “It literally topped off our 150th year!”
