Belfast-born Jonny Bongo has stated he is “over the moon” to be bringing his iconic Bongo’s Bingo brand to the Northern Irish city, after seven years away from home.

Following a protracted licensing process, the anarchic bingo event which began in Liverpool in 2015 will now land for the first time at Boucher Road Playing Fields on 28 October.

“Since we started in Liverpool, which has a massive Irish connection, I was back and forth to Belfast trying to get it over here,” Bongo told Belfast Live. “Finally we have got the green light that we can go ahead and take it home.”

“I am absolutely over the moon – it’s literally been seven years trying to get this sorted and for me, it’s just so important and for me, will probably be one of the biggest shows I’ve ever done.”

Commenting on the secret to Bongo Bingo’s success, Bongo noted that despite the event being known for its immersive music and dancing, “one of the reasons it’s been so successful is the fact that it is still bingo and that’s why people seem to really enjoy it and it really is just a great night out.”

“It’s just good fun and no one takes themselves too seriously and I just know that’s going to go down well in Belfast.”
