After delays imposed by structural issues, supply shortages and Covid, Clacton Pier is set to open the Looping Star roller coaster this October in time for the Halloween Festival.

Clacton Pier’s long-awaited Looping Star roller coaster is set to be open by October half term, after “frustrating” delivery delays pushed back the latest fit-out and testing schedule.

The three-car ride was first purchased in 2019, however installation was postponed in February due to the collapse of the pier’s ride deck, before Covid halted all progress.

“There has also been a struggle to obtain the necessary materials since the delay to achieve the installation,” said pier director Billy Ball. “And we now face the challenges that the rest of the world is experiencing with the supply of materials.”

“It has been frustrating for our customers and we have had many enquiries about when the ride will open – it has been equally frustrating for us. We wanted the Looping Star operating in the summer, but it wasn’t to be.”

The Looping Star was intended to swiftly fill the gap left by Stella’s Revenge, sold to an attraction in South America in 2019, however Ball stated that construction teams are now close to finishing the ride’s ten metre loop ahead of a proposed opening in October.

“We are at a point now where we hope to have it ready to make it a star turn at our Halloween Festival.” The festival will run during half term from 23 to 31 October, culminating in a free fireworks display on 6 November. As well as a “freaky sideshow” in the Jolly Roger, the pier will also host a children’s fancy dress competition, model display, ghost hunt pack, and “ghoulish good food.”

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a special guest offer including rides, go-karts, a round of adventure golf, seaquarium, video games, a visit to the pumpkin patch and candy floss, with repeat guests able to enjoy the package for half price.

A frighteningly impressive schedule for Halloween.
