Last year’s winner of Bacta’s Seaside Selfie competition, Emma Lewell-Buck, MP for South Shields, chose a local family in her constituency to benefit from the prize – a family day out in Blackpool, courtesy of the trade body’s members.

The Seaside Selfie competition, which is being run again this year, is a campaign to encourage MPs to submit a photo of themselves, while at the coast. It is designed to highlight to politicians the challenges faced by seaside communities and the investment required to support seaside towns and businesses.

Emma Lewell-Buck MP visited the Smith family at the start of their day out and stayed for a chat before they were whisked away to Blackpool. Their first stop was Coral Island, where managing director Jeff MacNamara greeted them, gave them their VIP passes, goodie bags and play money for the arcade. The family also enjoyed a meal at The Buccaneer Restaurant & Bar.

After lunch, they were taken to Blackpool Pleasure Beach where they received a family ticket and speedy boarding passes from Nick Thompson and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon on the rides and amusements.

“We had a fantastic time,” said Susan Smith. “The children just loved everything, and everyone was dead welcoming, and the food was beautiful at Coral Island, the driver was really nice too. We couldn’t have wished for a better day all round, many thanks.”

John White, CEO of Bacta, said: “Thank you to everyone involved in this lovely initiative. Emma Lewell-Buck MP was a great sport to take part in our competition and picked a really deserving family to receive her prize. Everyone at Coral Island and Blackpool Pleasure Beach have been so generous at a busy time of year. We are incredibly grateful to you for making the Smith family so welcome. The wider implication of a campaign like this is hugely positive in terms of creating strong bonds with MPs and highlighting the fantastic contribution our members make to coastal communities.”
