As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, Clacton Pier has installed Race-O-Rama, a new ride aimed at younger audiences, part of a major investment in its entertainment offering.

Clacton Pier has confirmed the installation of a third new anniversary ride as part of its 150th birthday celebrations, with Race-O-Rama being installed on the landmark this week.

The Cars-themed children’s ride joins the Clacton Pier Wheel Experience and the Looping Star Roller Coaster in boosting the attraction’s offer for all the family.

“It will be sited at the start of the Pier neck, facing the Helter Skelter and close to our sweet and rock shop,” said pier director Billy Ball. “It is a further investment as we try to make use of as much of our 6.5 acres as possible to attract families to Clacton and the Pier.”

Race-O-Rama is expected to open this weekend, and is intended to enhance the pier’s ride selection for younger audiences, with Ball noting the attraction has proved popular at other sites across the country and will be “a welcome addition.”

With the Clacton Pier Wheel Experience already proving popular with guests, installation work is also continuing on the much-anticipated Looping Star Roller Coaster.

The next stages of the process includes electrical installation, the train itself, the control system, commissioning, and safety inspection, with the ride set to be fully up and running by the end of July.

The major ride investment comes as Clacton Pier looks to future-proof its offering, building a collection of enduring attractions expected to deliver lasting engagement, alongside a programme of events organised with ongoing safety measures in mind.

“Due to Covid restrictions and the uncertainty surrounding staging special events, we decided to celebrate our landmark birthday by concentrating on a number of new attractions which can be enjoyed long term,” said pier director Billy Ball.

“We also have a very strong line-up of fireworks extravaganzas which can be staged with room to maintain social distancing. We have all had to adapt plans this year and we hope our visitors will appreciate the increased offer.”

Clacton Pier’s next free fireworks display will take place on 24 July, with further displays taking place each week during the school summer holiday.
