Superbowl UK has officially confirmed its first venue in the north east, with a new £2m bowling and family entertainment centre to be located in Bishop Auckland’s 14-acre Fieldon Bridge retail park.
The site – projected to open in 2022 – will be the brand’s eleventh UK venue, and will sit alongside a seven screen multiplex cinema, gym, and five restaurants in the 150,000 sq ft retail and leisure complex.
“This is proof that these developers are committed to these sites,” Durham county councillor for West Auckland Rob Yorke told the Northern Echo. “The fact that SuperBowl has confirmed this is fantastic, they are a household name.”
“The area is going to become a real leisure area and it’s really exciting, there’s a lot of money being invested in St Helen Auckland. This is one of the biggest areas of regeneration, possibly in the North East.”
The Fieldon Bridge park will sit alongside the town’s existing Tindale centre, with construction expected to begin in Autumn of this year. “Getting the announcements that the bowling alley is committed gives people something to look forward to in the future,” added chair of the Bishop Auckland stronger towns board David Land.
“It will be great for residents to have something like this on their doorstep without having to travel all the way to Newcastle.”
