Clacton Pier played host to the team of Antiques Road Trip last weekend, as Catherine Southon and Serhat Ahmet visited the attraction while filming the 22nd series of the BBC favourite.

The pair of experts, who are unable to attend live auctions due to Covid restrictions, watched their picks go under the hammer from dodgem cars in the pier’s amusement centre, with the episode due to air in September.

“It has certainly changed a great deal since I was last here,” said Southon, who studied at the nearby Essex University. “It looks a really fun place.”

“I will have to come back with my children.”

Commenting on the visit, pier MD Billy Ball said: “We got a call about a week before to ask if they could use us as a venue and we were more than happy to host them.”

The visit, which saw the experts and crew set up on the pier for six hours, came just ahead of the attraction reopening to the public on 12 April.

“It has been more than three months since we have had customers on the Pier and it is great to be welcoming them back,” added Ball.
