Webbers Leisure has been granted planning approval by Cheshire West and Chester Council to convert a betting shop on Chester’s Frodsham Street into a new AGC.

The former William Hill will be transformed with 21 machines, and will become Webber’s fourth UK premises alongside sites in Rhyl, Caernarfon and Manchester.

“All three centres are equipped to a high standard and offer an adult only gaming environment,” stated Webbers spokesperson. “All the latest gaming machines are available, constantly updating to maintain high interest levels and choice for our customers.”

The council’s approval is subject to a series of conditions, including that the AGC must not open outside the hours of 9am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The planning committee outlined that this is to “ensure that the residential amenities that occupiers can reasonably expect to enjoy are adequately protected.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council had received one objection, raised by chartered surveyors Elias Topping, stating the presence of a similar premises nearby “will dilute the retail offer.”

However, Roger Etchells – acting on behalf of Webbers – stated there is “no conflict” with planning policy when the plans went before the committee last month.
