With the Miles for Smiles fundraising initiative now entering its sixth week, the team behind the campaign are calling on the public to support the 171 “Smile Makers” still notching up the miles by donating what they can.

With participants already having walked the equivalent of the circumference of the globe between them, Bacta representative Steph Norbury has noted that all donations are welcome as enthusiasm for the challenge continues to grow.

“We are still signing people up to Miles for Smiles and people are sharing their videos and photos to the bactauk Facebook page which is fantastic,” said Norbury. “There is a great camaraderie of people cheering each other on.”

“We would love to raise more before the end of March but we know times are tough for everyone. We urge people only give if and what you can – the main thing is to have fun and feel better.”

The call comes just days after outgoing President of Bacta James Miller pledged £500 to the campaign, if the participants were able to double their existing miles.

Though the motivation to continue may be proving difficult, the initiative’s “Mr Motivator” – aka Tony Glanville of Inspired – has been helping raise both spirits and funds by encouraging his fellow participants through regular video updates, alongside the inimitable Mumma G.

“Tony, Sarah and Mumma G have been brilliant at making us smile with their outfits and funny videos,” added Norbury. “Team Glanville have also been working out and contributing their miles too.”

The initiative has already raised £1295 for the Bacta Charitable Trust, and further donations can be made via the Bacta Miles for Smiles JustGiving page.
