The first week of Miles for Smiles has been epic – with over 140 ‘smilers’ signed up 34 industry teams of 4 – with Inspired fielding 11 teams and iFun Amusements in Herne Bay signing up four teams as well!
The newly created bacta Facebook page has also been buzzing with selfies from people exercising indoors and outside in the freezing temperatures. “It seems that Miles for Smiles is giving people a focus and some much-needed fun at a difficult time,” says Steph Norbury who is coordinating the initiative alongside Inspired’s Tony Glanville. “I particularly enjoy the healthy competition between teams, the team names and the pictures that we are receiving. It’s lovely to see this community forming.”
Participants are not only encouraged to log their exercise but also to make a donation if they are able, to the bacta charitable trust, via JustGiving https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bactamilesforsmiles. The event will continue until March 30.
So far, the leader has been Barry Johnson of Parker’s Leisure Bright Spot arcade in Rhyl – who has remained unbeatable all week. He combines his love of walking with photography and his wife Christine has now signed up as well. Shooting into second place is John Midgley (as we went to press) from the BN(A)E Team. Helen Roberts, an accountant from Inspired has led the ladies with an impressive 3rd place. Alan Claypole from Blueprint is at number four and our very own Mr. Motivator – Tony Glanville is in 5th place on the individual scores.
Team rankings show Team BN(A)E in first place, followed by Team Glanville, Team Blueprint, Team Inspired R&D and Team Dransfields. There’s still time to sign up – just email Steph at firstname.lastname@example.org – you can backdate your exercise miles to Feb 1.
