Rank Group owned Mecca Bingo has announced a record year for prize money paying out a total of £153,583,710 in 2020 through its 76 bingo clubs and the popular online platform. The record was achieved despite bricks and mortar clubs being shut for long periods of the year as part of the government’s lockdown strategy.
With a Covid-enforced focus on online gaming Meccabingo.com dished out £96 million. Mecca bingo clubs, despite being closed for so long, handed over more than £57 million with 16 Mecca players scooping £50,000 jackpots courtesy of the National Game.
The club in Stockton was Mecca’s luckiest despite being closed for 22 weeks of the year as a result of lockdowns. In total, Stockton players walked away with an impressive £2,356,029 in prizes.
On Meccabingo.com, players in London proved the most successful, claiming a whopping £29,361,397 in online winnings.
Catherine Warrilow, Mecca Bingo’s Head of PR and Content, said: “Revealing that we have handed out such a life-changing amount of money during an equally life-changing year has been an amazing way to kick off 2021. Our loyal community has continued to give each other endless support in such a trying time, so we’re thrilled to give something back to them.
“Although our clubs remain temporarily closed, the bingo goes on at Meccabingo.com, and we can’t wait to welcome back lucky dabbers through our doors when we’re able to reopen.”
