East Lindsey District Council has granted Butlins approval to construct a temporary event venue at its Ingoldmells site in order to house socially-distanced entertainment.
Expanding on the outside stage built at Roman Bank last year to accommodate shows amid Covid-19 restrictions, the new venue will also expand resort capacity.
“Plans include a new temporary entertainment venue with accompanying accessible toilet facilities,” reported the Skegness Standard. “The new venue will sit to the south of the existing York building that houses the resort restaurants and to the west of the Hotshots building.”
ELDC approved the plans on 25 January, with the authority’s Economic Development department adding that enhancing the region’s tourism offering is a priority of Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
Live outside entertainment had continued at the resort during its limited open period last year, however the new covered venue will allow shows to take place regardless of weather.
With Butlin’s Skegness also forced to operate at 60 percent capacity during the summer, the expanded floorspace will allow the resort to accommodate more guests in line with social distancing regulations.
“Regular briefing sessions have been held with the Butlins Skyline and other key stakeholders to establish a considered, functional and high quality design.”
