Hasbro has teamed up with Rocafella Leisure Group to submit plans for a £4.5m laser combat venue across three retail units in Manchester’s Trafford Centre.

The battleground and adventure arena will form the UK’s first Nerf Action Experience attraction, occupying 25,000 sq ft of the first-floor in the retail centre’s Barton Square.

The planning submission states Nerf Action Experience is a “family entertainment leisure experience, incorporating laser guns and virtual interactions and is a market leading attraction with 20 attractions across Europe.”

“Nerf’s occupancy at Barton Square will be their first UK destination.”

The plans were first announced in September, with Rocafella COO hailing the project as “taking UK Family Entertainment Centres to the next level with the first of its kind.” Alongside the gameplay arena, the development will incorporate a 4,000 sq ft mezzanine, with space allocated for a café and viewing platform.

The submission stated that Nerf at Barton Square will “encourage dwell time within the shopping centre, attract levels of footfall and encourage linked trips.”

With the project expected to create 50 new jobs, the submission added that the social benefits of Nerf Action Experience will “contribute to the vitality and viability of the shopping centre as a whole.”
