Southend Pier is back on the small screen this month, as Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty return to Channel 4 with their hit cooking series Friday Night Feast.
Guests including Amir Khan and Jack Dee will feature at the bistro on the end of the world’s longest pleasure pier, in episodes filmed prior to the pandemic.
It’s been nearly seven years since Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty presented their first Friday Night Feast from their bistro at the end of Southend Pier,” reported The Echo, adding “the superchef and the pig farmer have been having a fine bromance since their school days in an Essex village.”
Though the bromance may have endured, the filming of series seven of Friday Night Feast was interrupted by the outbreak of Coronavirus last summer, with the episodes now airing having been filmed in 2019.
The filming would have taken place shortly after the tearoom opened to visitors in April of that year, with Southend councillors at the time praising the naked chef’s work in promoting the pier cafe.
Speaking to The Echo, the leader of the town’s council John Lamb told the Echo that “it’s an excellent venue and Jamie Oliver has done wonderful work.”
