The Storey Group has lodged an application with North East Lincolnshire Council to transform the ground floor of a vacant former RBS bank in Grimsby into a new AGC.
The Victoria Street venue closed in 2018, with the latest proposal set to enhance footfall at the nearby Freshney Place shopping centre, and boost the area’s evening economy.
“The proposal is for an adult only amusement centre consisting of gaming machines,” said documents submitted with the application. “Such establishments are found in most shopping centres, including town and district shopping centres.”
“They have different effects from amusement arcades. There is a statutory obligation to exclude under 18s. Premises such as this are no noisier than a shop and would be suitable neighbours in this location.”
If approved, the proposal will create eight full-time and two part-time jobs, and expand the Storey Group ’s west and south Yorkshire retail amusement estate.
The development would also make practical use of the vacant RBS bank, closed in July 2018 after it was found just 63 people used its services on a weekly basis.
