Clacton Pier has stated its property maintenance team are making the most of the second lockdown by undertaking a “full programme” of works, including structural developments, ride checks, and the construction of Santa’s North Pole Experience.
With guests unable to visit the attraction until 3 December, the pier’s 3,000 piles are being strengthened, staff are taking delivery of the new Looping Star Roller Coaster, and decorations are being hung in time for the festive season.
“As a business we are closed to the public, but we need to make the most of that down time to get on with the winter jobs,” said director Billy Ball. “Unfortunately, some of that work – such as maintaining the piles under the Pier – was neglected for many years by previous owners. We are being proactive and have an ongoing programme to ensure this is now being taken care of.”
Ball added the team are engaged in “numerous other maintenance projects” alongside construction of the traditional Christmas experience, which would usually have had to take place around peak visitor times.
“This year we have this four week period when we can purely concentrate on these tasks and we have to make the most of the closure.”
