Following the successful launch of a new mobile parking app, Blackpool Council has confirmed it will introduce cashless payment for its car parks and on-street bays.
The system will allow drivers to make payments via a dedicated phone service, with wardens able to check payment by scanning number plates.
“The parking app has proved successful since it was introduced,” said Cllr Mark Smith. “We will be monitoring how the use of cashless methods of payment goes and may reduce the number of machines which can take cash.”
“We’re not going to go completely cashless overnight – it’s just another way of meeting people’s needs.”
