Clacton Pier has reinstalled its iconic Helter Skelter, after the ride was temporarily relocated to Edinburgh for the Princes Street Winter Wonderland.

The slip, which has entertained guests at the pier since 2009, was reinstated last week as the pier prepares for a potential July re-opening date.

“We will now have the slip ready for operation whenever we are told that we can re-open the outdoor ride area to the public,” said pier director Billy Ball. “As always we will be led by the government and the science and we are hoping that we may get a date in July which allow us to operate throughout the school summer holidays.”

“It would be fantastic if we can do that – with all the necessary safety and distancing measures in place for staff and customers.”

The ride had been due to re-open at the pier for Easter, however Coronavirus lockdown restrictions forced the slip to remain in storage in the Midlands until this month.

The Helter Skelter was delivered to the pier at 4am on the morning of 3 June, with technical services staff at the attraction completing its reinstallation by the end of the day.
