Clacton Pier laid on a special virtual firework show on 12 April, treating families at home to a four minute Dynamic Fireworks display, with help from AJDroneography.
The footage, captured by drone during the 2019 May Bank Holiday display, was broadcast via the pier’s social media channels, after the planned live display had to be cancelled. “Lots of people have been saying they are missing the pier, so we have tried to cheer people up, and, at the same time, get the Government’s message to ‘Stay Home’ across to everyone,” said pier communications manager Nigel Brown.
“It is quite right that the Pier is closed and that we all do what we can to support NHS staff, emergency services, carers and all key workers at this difficult time. We owe them that – and much more.”
The virtual extravaganza attracted thousands of views online, with the footage – recorded by drone pilot Adam Smith – giving viewers a sky-high view of the display. “We contacted Adam, whose business is in Manningtree as he did a video last year and he was delighted to be able to help out. We could not have put on the display without him.
“It allowed us to take it into homes without anyone having to venture outside.”
