In a move that will filter through to the seaside resort’s tourist sector, Felixstowe councillors have expressed concern over the planned removal of free parking spaces from East Suffolk Council-run car parks across the town.
All 30-minute free spaces will be removed from the Crescent and Highfield Road car parks, while Garrison Lane, Manor Terrace and Landguard sites will introduce pay-and-display.
“I am concerned at the lack of free parking in the town centre,” Felixstowe town and district councillor Mike Deacon told the Ipswich Star. “I would have preferred to have seen that retained, and I think free after 3pm parking would also be very beneficial to our town centre shops.”
“I am also particularly concerned at the loss of Garrison Lane as a free car park as this was a great help for those people living in those streets between Sea Road and Langer Road, where there are terrible parking problems.”
East Suffolk Council stated the new scheme will reduce the 50 existing ticket price levels to just four.
