Blackpool Pleasure Beach has launched a virtual version of its Icon roller coaster, allowing families across the world to enjoy the £16m double-launch ride from their own homes.
The immersive Icon video experience launched on 4 April, part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s growing range of virtual attractions designed to keep customers entertained during the park’s closure.
“We understand that theme parks are an escape for people and roller coasters are an amazing, feelgood journey,” said MD Amanda Thompson.
“During these times, if we can bring some of that joy home for people, that would just be wonderful.”
The double-launch Icon ride was first installed at the park in 2018, and accelerates riders to 50mph in 2.25 seconds, before reaching heights of 88ft.
The ride also closely interacts with other rides and attractions 15 times during its high-speed journey through the park.
The immersive video footage was released by Blackpool Pleasure Beach via its social media channels, and marks the first of a wide selection of virtual experiences proposed by the park.
The pleasure beach will also release exclusive clips and footage of its most popular rides on Saturdays, as well as sharing craft activities and keep fit classes from its Team Nick entertainment staff.
