With no customers to serve in Southend-on-sea, Happidrome owner Martin Richardson delivered a little bit of the British seaside experience to local NHS staff last week in the form of 400 ice cream servings.
Teaming up with Hamilton’s Ice Cream, Richardson took the ice cream and cones to the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic at Southend Hospital – showing his appreciation for the bravery and hard work of NHS staff. “Hamilton’s Ice Cream along with The Happidrome Arcade delivered enough ice cream and cones for over 400 servings to our hard working NHS staff at Southend Hospital. After meeting with two lovely staff ( at a safe distance ) and receiving a lovely heartfelt “thank you” – no, WE THANK YOU,” he wrote on Facebook.
Later in the day, he received a response from one of those staff members: “I’m a rehab assistant on Princess Anne ward and would just like to say a very big thank you for your lovely donation. Really put a smile on the staff’s faces and the ice cream is delicious. I wish you the best through what must be a very difficult time for you and will be hoping to come down when you’re open again for an ice cream! Thank you, Ben,” it read.
“When you get a message like this, it makes your day,” said Richardson.
