Bolton’s Northern Way pub is to install a new Cat C gaming machine after the council’s licencing committee unanimously approved its application on 12 November.
The Amber Taverns-owned venue will now offer customers three gaming options, following calls for a wider range of machines from pub regulars.
“We’d like to have this machine as our customers have requested it,” said the company’s compliance manager Diana Freeman. “It’s just something we’d like to offer to them.”
“They get bored with the two machines that are there and they would like to move along to another one.”
The Nelson Square establishment will install the new machine this month, with the approval from the council coming after Amber Taverns dismissed questions of problem gambling raised by the licensing and environmental regulation committee.
“There is a current policy at the council presently that establishments like pubs and clubs wanting more than two Category C gaming machines, max stake £1 max prize £100, apply for permission,” said councillor Sue Haworth.
“I asked about staff training on awareness of gambling addiction and also the applicant’s experience on this. With much pub sector experience explained I felt the applicants gave very good assurance in answer to questions at committee.”
