Worthing Pier’s Southern Pavilion has been purchased by the owner of a local seafront cafe, with the “iconic” venue set to undergo a six month renovation and rebranding, creating 40 new jobs.
Alex Hole, who runs award-winning Lancing eatery The Perch, confirmed the acquisition on 3 September, stating the pavilion will immediately open as a cafe serving a limited menu of tea, cakes and coffee, before further investment brings a new kitchen, and redesign.
“It’s an iconic building that really defines the landscape and the beach in Worthing,” Hole told the Worthing Herald. “We are always looking for something that is a completely unique project, and this represents that for us.”
“People should be able to recognise the Perch brand and style, this process will not be fast, but we are determined to get it right.”
The Southern Pavilion was reopened in 2014 as a bistro and function room, after being renovated from its previous seven-year life as a nightclub.
The Perch was opened in 2015, just two miles east of Worthing Pier, with Hole also submitting a proposal for Shoreham’s Beach Green toilet block in 2016, before Boxpark was selected as developer for the site.
