Licensing spot checks took place in Lewisham on 21 June, in a joint operation between Lewisham Council and the Gambling Commission.

The inspections, undertaken as part of National Licensing Week, took place in several gaming establishments across the southwest London borough.

“Our Licensing Team – Richard Lockett, Charlotte Smith and Kennedy Obazee – carried out joint compliance inspections with Mo Shafiq, Gambling Commission Compliance Manager, across the borough as part of National Licensing Week,” said a statement from Lewisham Council via Twitter.

The inspections follow a wave of compliance and licensing inspections around the country as part of the week-long initiative intended to “raise awareness of licensing.” GC compliance manager Shafiq inspected two Buzz Bingo sites in Wigan alongside Wigan Council’s regulatory services officer Sarah Walton on 18 June, while compliance manager Alisatair Henry inspected AGC sites in Cheltenham the following day.

The strategy also saw compliance manager Ray Micallef accompany PC Susan Purnell to visit Ladbrokes Home Street in Edinburgh.
