Saltburn Pier is set to mark its 150th birthday year with a grand celebration featuring family entertainment and amusements, before the unveiling of a brand new lighting scheme for the pier and nearby Cliff Tramway.

Alongside the festivities, the event will also include an attempt to fill the pier with 150 visitors in Victorian dress, a nod to the heyday of the British seaside town, and the construction of the pier.
“We’re asking for anyone with appropriate Victorian-style costumes to come along and enjoy the day with us,” said Dan Rowley, member of the Saltburn Neighbourhood Action Partnership, which has organised the celebration with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
The birthday festival will take place on 11 May, with the costumed volunteers posing for photographs, allowing visitors to get a sense of what it would have been like to attend the grand opening of the pier back in 1869.
