A bingo hall in Hartlepool is set to go up for sale in the coming weeks, calling time on what has been more than half a century of operation.

The Carlton Bingo club has been a mainstay of the local community since 1968 but changes in the retail space over the past decade have impeded its financial feasibility.
Mike Watret, Carlton operations director, said: “It is unfortunate but it is as a consequence of the decline in retail bingo over the last 10 years. Ever since the smoking ban was introduced down in England we have seen a decline in the retail market with 50 per-cent of bingo premises closing.
“Then there are online pressures with people happier to stay at home and play rather than make the effort to go out for the night.”
