Withernsea Pier’s historic towers are to be returned to their former glory after funding from the government’s coastal revival fund was secured for the site.

A total of £48,600 has been allocated for the restoration work which is aimed to create a year-round public attraction and community hub.

Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry MP made the announcement at the foot of the towers: “I don’t think anywhere can better demonstrate the Great British seaside at its best and it’s places like Withernsea that are at the heart of driving forward our economy around our coasts and it’s really important to demonstrate that by coming here,” he said.

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, added: “On behalf of local businesses I’m delighted and it brings more life to the tower area. It’s a further boost to Withernsea and we want a strong, prosperous future for the area and this kind of investment is really welcome.”
