Hartlepool’s Carlton Bingo has launched a consultation with its workforce to consider the venue’s future as a bingo hall.

The York Road club, which has served the town for 50 years, is considering trading options in the light of declining high street bingo custom.

“I can confirm that we have started a consultation process with employees at the club looking at the future trading of the bingo club,” said a statement from Carlton to the Hartlepool Mail. “At this stage, no final decisions have been taken.”

The hall, marketed online as “Hartlepool’s friendliest local bingo,” is one of 13 operated by Carlton Bingo, with the majority of its venues located in Scotland.

Beginning life as a Regal Cinema in 1936, the building has operated as a bingo hall since 1968, and is currently open seven days a week.

The consultation process is expected to last several weeks.
