Bingo fanatic, Mima Heaney, who celebrates her 100th birthday on 20th July, is the oldest resident in Banknock, Scotland – a fact she is extremely proud of. The bingo superfan, who was born into a family of children in 1918 – as the First World War ended, always played bingo with her husband and now plays with her daughter.

As guest of honour at Buzz Bingo in Falkirk, Heaney was invited to cut the ribbon at the relaunch party by club manager David Gaffney. Heaney said: “I am so excited to be part of the Buzz Bingo launch. I have met some lovely people along the way here and could not sleep last night – I was counting bingo numbers instead of sheep! Buzz Bingo is a great, safe and social environment where all the management and staff have become friends”.

Having always wanted to call the bingo numbers, Heaney was recently asked to call the charity Alzheimer’s bingo flyer. Taking centre stage with ease, the 99-year-old was given a massive round of applause and a standing ovation for her confidence and wit by the audience.

Local photographer Jamie Millar, who also attended the relaunch party said: “Seeing Mima on stage was brilliant. The hall came to life when she gave her speech and was waving her wee wand. She’s like a fairy grandmother! A bingo renaissance in Falkirk awaits!”

He added; “I remember hearing a story a few years ago when it had been snowing heavily that someone had cleared a path down four flights of steps and landings. That person was Mima! She had cleared all of them so she could get to the bingo. She was in her nineties at the time and she’s still full of beans today”.

As a show of gratitude for Heaney’s loyalty to the Falkirk club, David the manager and the staff at Falkirk gifted Heaney with the ultimate early birthday present – free bingo for life!

Ian Fitzpatrick, Marketing Business Partner said: “The Buzz Bingo club could have chosen a celebrity or footballer for their opening, but instead they wanted somebody who meant something to the club. That person is Mima who represents all of Buzz Bingo’s Falkirk customers past and present. David, the General Manager recognised this and decided that Mima is the ultimate VIP! It’s a truly fantastic gesture from a club built from it’s community roots”.
