Football chants, stadium anthems and sing-a- long choruses will ring out in pubs and entertainment venues across the country as Playdium jukeboxes model their interactive playlists to coincide with the start of the World Cup in June.
“All of our UK music profiles will now feature a Football Songs playlist tile containing all the football anthems such as Three Lions, Vindaloo and World In Motion among others to make it straightforward for operators to bring the World Cup atmosphere to their pub or venue,” explained Bruce Earwaker, music programming manager at TouchTunes who has been responsible for curating the playlists for the world’s smartest jukebox.
“It’s not always easy for venues to navigate a massive sporting event such as the World Cup, so we’ve ensured the Football Songs tile will be front and centre on the juke’s Music Carousel so if a customer wants to find World Cup and football related con- tent it will be presented to them obviously and easily with plenty to choose from,” continued Earwaker.
“Three Lions, Vindaloo and World In Motion are easily the most played football anthems and if they play on a juke in a pub which is into the World Cup, those most played tracks will automatically feature in Top Songs to reinforce their popularity and offer more visibility and quicker access around a big game. In addition to the football songs we’ve also included other big warm-up anthems from Oasis, The Fratellis and others.”
The interactive nature of the Playdium allows for specially curated playlists from venue to venue depending on the type of pub, the operator’s desires and even the location. With Wales and Scotland not having teams in the World Cup this year, Bruce explained: “Of course foot- ball songs will feature in Wales and Scotland but as we can customise playlists according to region they will not have the same playlist as in England: instead they will concentrate on their own rich legacy of anthemic sing-a-longs. Classics never go out of fashion and personally Supergrass’ Alright is a great football anthem and it’s on the list!”
The FIFA World Cup is the single most watched sporting spectacle and in 2014 attracted a global television audience of 3.2 billion, over 46 percent of the world population. The tournament opens on June 14 when host nation, Russia take on Saudi Arabia. England take on their first group stage opponents, Tunisia, on Monday, June 18 at 7pm.
Playdium delivers a smarter music experience by actually learning from the music being selected in a venue and then refining the user offer and experience over time to better match what customers want to hear. This means that the home screen content, artist pages, playlists and even search results dynamically change based on the music history of the jukebox, delivering a relevant entertainment experience.
