A giant ferris wheel will be coming to Southampton next month and its prospects are exciting local businesses, according to ebullient reports in the local media.
Run by Eventive Funtime, the UK’s tallest mobile ferris wheel, at 115ft, will stay for six weeks in an attempt to bring increased tourism to the city.
“We view anything that actively improves footfall and dwell time in the city centre as a positive thing. If this kind of amusement brings something to the city it is something we would support.
I imagine it will attract people’s attention due its sheer size,” said Jon Walton, chief executive of Go! Southampton Business Improvement District, talking to the Southern Daily Echo.
Thousands of out of town visitors are expected to come and enjoy a unique aerial view of Southampton from 9 September which local amusement operators will be keen to capitalise on.
“This will be a really good thing for the city. Southampton is a city where something is always happening so this is a great addition to what Southampton already has to offer, not just for local residents but for businesses and visitors as well,” Satvir Kaur, a cabinet member for Southampton City Council’s communities, culture and leisure sector.
