Contractors working on Felixstowe Pier’s new pavilion building have confirmed that it remains on course to open later this summer. Good weather, particularly over the winter months, have allowed the team leading the £3m project to progress on schedule without disruption.
The all new building will include a family entertainment centre, ten-pin bowling and food outlets including a café/bar. A spokesperson for the team told local press that the project is on schedule and is expected to be completed on 9 August.
Last week, engineers completed the operation to position domes on top of the building’s twin turrets, a feature of its distinctive design. Recruitment for front-of- house and kitchen staff for two of the pier’s new catering businesses – the café/bar and a fish and chip shop – is already underway.
The new pavilion will be larger than the one it replaces, and will include a boardwalk that allows visitors to walk around the building over the beach and sea. The final stage of the project will see level of the promenade raised, so that it slopes upwards at a gentle gradient to the new pavilion’s entrance.
A walkway can then be created from the car park in front of the neighbouring Felixstowe Leisure Centre, enabling people of all physical abilities to cross the sea wall – which separates the car park from the promenade – and access the pier building all year round.
