The iconic Brighton Palace Pier has topped the polls as the most popular man-made free tourist attraction in the UK.

The newly renamed Brighton Palace Pier has been voted the UK’s third favourite free visitor attraction in a new poll.

The pier was also the most popular man-made free tourist attraction in the survey, conducted by coach operator National Express.

Newquay’s beaches came fourth in the vote, followed closely by Scarborough beach in fifth.

Southwold Pier was the only other pier to feature in the top 20, at fourteenth. Brighton Palace Pier also celebrated the opening of its new i220 children’s ride, based on the resort’s i360 viewing tower, last weekend.

Although the ride only ascends to a height of eight metres, it will still offer families scenic views of Brighton’s seafront.

The pier recently replaced its much loved Dolphin Derby concession, and is due to open a new four-storey indoor soft-play area with a café and pizzeria.
