Scarborough could soon be home to a new indoor seaside amusement park if plans for its proposed site are approved by the resort’s council on Monday.
The new park, provisionally named ‘Flamingo Land Coast,’ would be built on the site of the current Futurist Theatre on Scarborough’s South Bay seafront and feature a number of different attractions, including a roller coaster.
Scarborough Council outlined its plan to demolish the Futurist, which it claims will cost almost £4m, last week.
If councillors agree to bring the bulldozers in it would be the biggest step forward to date for the amusement park plans to come to fruition.
However, campaigners in the North Yorkshire resort are trying to save the theatre – which hosted acts including The Beatles in its heyday – from being demolished.
The vote on its fate is scheduled to take place on 9 January.
