Cleethorpes Pier is to be transformed into the “world’s biggest” fish and chip restaurant after its sale to regional operator Papa’s Fish and Chips has finally been confirmed.
Head of the family business, Sid Papas, 53, said: “It’s a traditional pier and we are so pleased and so proud and want to make everyone else proud of it. We are grateful that we have been given the opportunity to keep the pier open and to make it more accessible.”
The Papas family hope to open the fish and chip restaurant and takeaway in early March, and in the meantime will continue to operate the pier after buying out the Huxford family, who announced their intentions to sell the pier in September.
After reopening last summer following a £4.7m investment, Bryan Huxford said he had taken the business at Cleethorpes Pier as far as he could.
Earlier this year it was named as the Pier of the Year 2016 by the National Piers Society.
